Stol is a mountain that at 2236 meters represents the highest peak of Karawanks. The national border between the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Austria runs over its peak and ridge. It is possible to approach the top by various routes from both the Slovenian and Austrian sides. Below the summit of Mali Stol (2198 m) at an altitude of 2193 m stands the Prešern hut, rebuilt in 1966 instead of its predecessor (opened in 1927), which was burned by partisans in 1942 during the Second World War.

There are several routes to approach the top. As part of this tour you can choose the Žirovnica or Zabreška route and a circular version is also possible. The starting point is usually at the parking lot at Završnica lake but a shorter option is also possible namely from Valvasorjev dom pod Stolom which shortens our hike by a good hour and a half.
